Auburn, Indiana – February 23, 2004 – The DeKalb County Assessor Office is using document imaging technology, developed by DoxTek, to make its database of sales disclosure forms and property record cards available to the public through the county assessor’s web site.
“Giving the public the ability to search and retrieve images of property records over the Internet is a win-win situation for everyone,” said Dottie Leins, DeKalb County assessor. “The public saves time acquiring the records and we save time finding and distributing the records—it’s just more convenient.”
From DeKalb’s web site, users can retrieve digital replicas of a property’s original sales disclosure forms and property record cards, as well as a picture of the property (if available). Search queries include owner’s name, property address or parcel number.
David Taylor, vice president of DoxTek, said, “Organizations that depend on property sales data, such as realtors, appraisers and title companies, can find it quickly and easily without leaving their office.”
For the last year, DeKalb County has used document imaging to convert paper sales disclosure forms and other documents into digital images to align with Department of Local Government Finance’s electronic storage and submission mandate.
“We’ve had the ability to search and view the electronic images in our office for a while. Making the images public facing seemed like the next logical step”, said Leins.
